Redwood Lodge (September, 2004) - see updates from 2005 below

This is our 4th trip here and we lost our notes, as far as our beer ratings go - that is the purpose of creating this page..  You’ll see down below that we had to visit again in 2005 to re-rate the brews.  A group of us went to the Renaissance festival and we ended up back at Redwood afterward.  Todd and Fred had not been there before, but Cheryl’s brother Mark and girlfriend have gone every year for the past 9 years.  This is Cheryl’s second time to the festival and now has her wench outfit complete.  Click here for pics from the Renaissance Festival.

We had a great time seeing the sites, watching the joust, drinking some brews, and eating the chicken stew in a bread bowl.  A very fun time for all.  See the pictures by clicking here.

On the way home we came here to get dinner and also a growler re-fill.  To eat Todd and Cheryl had the Crab Brussetta, and the Seafood stuffed Portabella Mushroom.  Both of these were very good.  We can’t remember what everyone else had to eat, but everyone was impressed with their meals.

Fred got a cigar to take home (since this is a cigar lounge) and Mark, thinking he was a cigar man ordered one too.  When they got their bill, he was wondering why the price was so high.  Found out he ordered a top-notch $10 cigar!  We tried out Mark’s cigar when we got back to his house – just another cigar to us.

In our growler we had a re-fill of the Porter that was on tap at that time.  Check out below for beer ratings.

Redwood Lodge (October 8, 2005)

Old Sequoia Cigar Lounge and Social Club

This will be our 6th trip here.  We realized that the previous notes from 2002 were lost – that was when we rated all the beers.  So, now we’ve returned to give our beer ratings, not that we mind coming back.

The Sequoia Cigar Lounge and Social Club is where we normally sit.  This is set up with a wonderful lodge look, large fireplace, large bar area, and they have a nice selection of cigars.  The restaurant area is non-smoking.

We sat by the fireplace (seen in the picture) which is very cozy.  They now have a large flat panel T.V. in the place of the deer head above the fireplace.  We ordered up a sampler, which they had 11 on tap.  In the sampler we tasted:  Redwood Light (nice and smooth), American Dark (won a bronze this year in July), Kolschbier, Munich Helles, Pale Ale, Brown Porter (hoppier than we thought it would be), Bock, Octoberfest, Russian Stout, American IPA (nice and hoppy like it should be), and Cream Stout.  Our growler has been re-filled with the Russian Stout at least 2 times before and again we filled it with the Russian Stout.

We talked with Kevin one of the managers there, he was very nice and informative, and mentioning how creative Bill is, the head brewer.  Carla waited on us and to eat we ordered the Crab and Mushroom soup, this is like a chowder and very chunky, also a featured item on the menu – very, very good.  After the soup we ordered the Wild Mushroom Pasta.  This was also very good, it had portabella, shitake, forest, morels, and pappardelle mushrooms with a parmesean Alfredo sauce.

Carla was very helpful and knew a lot about the brews and food.  We have eaten many times here - usually appetizers - and the food is always wonderful.  She had told us that they do bottle 4 different brews in a 22oz bottle which is something we didn't know.
