We first stopped at Harper’s Restaurant and Brewpub in East Lansing. Directly across from MSU, parking wasn’t too bad – of course spring break was on. We found public parking across the street at $1/hour.

The bartender was helpful in letting us try the various brews. We tried the Scotch Ale and Cheryl fell in love. Todd preferred the Spartan Wheat and didn’t think the Grove St Pale Ale was too bad – although Cheryl wasn’t too fond of it. We also tried the Belgian Triple, 10.5%. The banana and clove aroma was strong and the flavor also.

For a snack, we looked over the appetizers and decided on the grilled portabella mushroom served on white beans. Cheryl got a pint of Scotch Ale to wash it down. An interesting approach to cooking a portabella. We’re portabella fans and found it very tasty. Other interesting items on the menu were the wild mushroom pizza and wild mushroom pasta.

Cheryl let Todd decide on what to get in a growler and he picked the Spartan Wheat. Off we went to our next stop.

Traveler’s Club International Restaurant and Tuba Museum

In less than 5 minutes we arrived at Traveler’s Club International Restaurant and Tuba Museum – now THAT’S a mouthful.

It was a small place that had been there for 20 years. There are tuba’s hanging on the walls. We found that to be very interesting. The food items where the most different that we have ever seen. Food from all over the world. It’s hard to believe they cook Snapper in this small diner-type place.

They only make one barrel of their own brew, which we tried. It was not that good to Cheryl, as it was an unfiltered and a cask brew. Rightfully named Horn O Plenty Winter Ale. Todd was also not too fond of it. We looked over the large menu and extensive list of brews from around the world. If you are into beers from around the world, this is it. They also have on tap many different Micro-brews from around Michigan.

No growlers available here. But if you are planning on touring the Micro breweries in Michigan this is a must see.

Michigan Brewing Company

Twenty minutes later we were at Michigan Brewing Co, in Webberville. We must admit that we have tried some of these brews as they are available at some of the local beer stores.

Cheryl’s favorite was the Peninsula Porter. Which we did get a growler of. We were amazed at how small the bar was. We thought they would have a big bar and restaurant. Although, they did have a huge barrel of peanuts. We tried the Superior Stout which was quite tasty, Belgian triple was a little on the strong side, and Big Mac Lager a lighter brew.

We also purchased a mix 6 pack and a bottle of the Russian Imperial 13% alcohol. Once we reached home the first thing we did was open the Russian Imperial, definitely very strong, but not too bad. The others we have purchased at party stores are Amber Ale, South Seas Pale Ale, Nut Brown Ale.
