A salmon
fishing trip in Ludington brought us back here for a
re-visit. Before
meeting our friends at the marina, our first stop was
Jamesport for dinner and samples.
It was great to stop after our 2+ hour drive from
Midland.
They were packed and we were
lucky to get a table right by the front window.
Wearing shorts and summer attire, we ended up
shivering from the air conditioning – it felt much nicer
outside, maybe we should have sat on the deck out back.
Knowing how great the food and beer
are we ordered up a sampler and tried:
English Mild, Kolsch, Dry Stout, Nitro Stout, and
Smokey Porter. The English Mild is the favorite and we fill our growler with
this fine brew although it looks like a brown.
To eat we had to have the
crabby onion, this is a must have should you visit here.
This time we also tried the JBC Stout bacon
cheeseburger - it had bacon, cheddar, and portabellas -
again the food was awesome.
Time to get to the boat and
check in with Capt’n Bob. Fridays catch was good, in the
box we had 6 nice kings (3 of which were hogs) and 2 Coho.
After a long day of fishing on Saturday (5 kings
and 3 coho this time), Michelle (Capt’n Bob’s 1st
mate) begged us to take her to Jamesport to refill the
growler – she said she was starving and wanted to go to
the brewery. Since
the growler was now empty, we thought we might as well.
(See picture below of our catch).
We were in need of food and decided on the combo
platter and the spinach artichoke dip, it was great just
as we expected. This
time we tasted the Black Cherry Porter and it was pretty
good, even Michelle who ordered a Bud light thought this
wasn’t too bad. Todd
saw the ‘04 Summer beer festival shirts, both of us
bought one because we had been to almost every brewery
shown on the back.

Back to the boat we go, time to get
drinking and check on the rest of the crew.
There are several fisherman that are also Nascar
fans and they had a TV hooked up outside.
We gladly joined the group and brought the growler.
Once the light rain started an umbrella was placed
over the TV and we all moved under the motorhome awning.
As the rain kept up we soon lost the satellite.
I
guess some of us partied too much the day before and
didn’t get up to go out at 5:00 am.
Todd and Cheryl were ready to go though, but went
back to sleep for a while.
When we did finally get out the fish were turned
off, we got skunked.
At least we did good on Friday and Saturday. On
the way home we stopped at the Hydro plant. (click

It sure was fun and the fishing was great.
The best, wet batter for frying salmon in is Drakes
mixed with a Porter or Stout.
This will make the batter darker and the flavor is
very good. Cheryl
also uses olive oil to cook it in.
