Thunderbay
2/5/05 |
|
|
This
is our 3rd visit here.
We came to the area again to go to King’s but of
course we always try to stop and get a few of our growlers
re-filled along the way.
Thunderbay had an Imperial Stout and
Freighters Red Ale this time.
We tried them both and decided on the Red ale.
The Imperial Stout we rated 4 stars and the Red Ale
we rated 4.5 stars.
The bartender, John was quite helpful and told us the
Stout took the place of the Oktoberfest they had. We were just glad to see that a Stout was back.
The last 2 times we were there we ended up with the
Porter. It
seems that we always end up with too many dark beers on
these trips (that’s what happens when we don’t like
the hoppy brews), so we chose the Freighters Red Ale to
fill the growler with.

King's
Brewery & Pub |
|
|
This is the 4th
visit here.
We had gift certificates to use at
King’s and we hadn’t eaten here the last 2 times we
visited. Last
Sept we even forgot the growler to get a re-fill.
On that trip we went to 8 breweries so no wonder we
forgot one growler.
We were looking forward to some great
food. We
started off with the Hummus, which was very good and we
rated it 5 stars, Cheryl had the Walleye & Chips rated
5 stars and Todd had the Shrimp Poorboy also rated 5
stars.
We tasted the Red Ale, Crown Brown,
Cherry Ale, and the Mocha Java Stout.
The Cherry Ale was quite tasty although we
typically don’t like the fruity stuff, and the Mocha
Java Stout was very good, not too much mocha and not too
much java. Cheryl
rates the Mocha Java Stout the best one of this type she
has had.
We had our growler filled with the
Crown Brown we purchased a bottle of the Cherry Ale and a
6 pack of the Mocha Java Stout.
The bartender, Dave was very friendly and helpful.
Every visit here has been great service and a good
time. We will
be back!!!!!!!

Bo's
Brewery and Bistro |
|

This is also our 3rd visit here. We only stopped for a growler re-fill. This time we sampled the Dr. Congers Porter, Seminole Red,
and Bo’s Blonde Ale.
We decided to get a re-fill of the Porter and we
also purchased a bottle of the Vintage Ale 2003 which is
21% alcohol – wow!.
Can’t wait to try that one.
Once again we didn’t eat here, but we have before and
they have great food here.
We
tried the Vintage Ale 2003 - not a real treat, but,
interesting. Putting that much alcohol content into
a beer gives it almost a whiskey aftertaste.

C.J.'s
Brewing Company |
|
|
This is our first visit to this
brewery. We
now have 7 more breweries to go to and that will complete
the State of Michigan.
Unless of course more happen to open or re-open.
We should have come here 3 years ago
when they had growlers, they no longer have them but we
hope that they will get them again.
We need one for our collection.
(UPDATE: 1-7-06, they now have growlers!) Click
here for picture page.
This place has a nice décor of
woodwork with old beer serving trays on some of the walls.
The food looked great, too bad we were still full
from King’s. They
have a full menu including burgers, pizza, steak and
chicken. The
lobster ravioli sounded real good.
We tried the following:
Golden Lager, American Wheat, Raspberry Wheat, Vat
33 IPA (extremely hoppy), Rich Hagg Red Ale, and the Lower
Straits Stout. They
were out of the Best Brown Ale.
They do bottle here, so we were able to get a mixed 6
pack to go of the Red Ale and Stout.
We will have to come back and try the food and also
the Brown Ale.
